Helpless
Helpless. That is the first word that came to mind when I learned about all the children that were being sold around the world.
Helpless when I learned that there are millions of children enslaved worldwide.
Helpless when I heard that over 300,000 children are at risk for sexual exploitation in the United States.
Helpless to hear that they are using children for sex, labor, and organ harvesting.
Helpless are the families that have missing children and have to wonder where they are.
Helpless are the children that are raped 40-60 times a day.
Helpless are the young girls and boys that are forced to perform sexual acts while being videotaped.
How can this be happening? How has this BEEN happening? Why aren't we doing more?
I look at my children and I think of those children and my heart breaks. I see my children laugh and play and I think of those that forgot what it is like to laugh. As a kid, you should only know joy. You should see no evil in this world. To think that these children have experienced more pain and suffering in their short life than most of us will never know is devastating.
Who speaks for them? Who fights for them? Who cries for them and helps them in their darkest hour?
We are NOT helpless! We must fight for them. We must fight for them the same way we would fight for our own children. We must prove to them that good will always overpower evil.
